Hillsboro has been my home since 1997, when I was in second grade. My family first became involved at Hillsboro MB in January of 1998. I attended Tabor College, and graduated in 2012 with a BA in Communication Studies. While at Tabor, I met my future wife, Hanna Bishop, from Hays. We were both involved in choir, band and drama productions, and spent many afternoons in the cafeteria sharing long conversations. We started dating in 2010, and were married in 2011. Hanna and I are expecting our first child, a girl, in January 2017. I’ve already nick-named her Scout.
After being contracted for design work at the church for several months, I started working at Hillsboro MB in September of 2013. I previously worked in graphic design at the Hillsboro Free Press and Lenexa Christian Center. In the summer of 2016 my position at the church shifted slightly as a stepped into the Sunday morning worship director role, but I will continue to be involved with several of my previous duties. In addition to my position at Hillsboro MB, I also run a graphic design studio, Vogel Design, out of our home, which I began full-time in the spring of 2014. The studio specializes in web design, app development, and print design and production. I am involved in a number of other locally-oriented business ventures as well.
Working with music and media at Hillsboro MB allows me to combine two of my passions with a third passion: sharing the love of Christ with others. Getting to work with graphic design, sound engineering, lighting design and worship music is an absolute blast, and I love that I get to do with with my church family.
