Al Ewert heard about World Impact when Dr. Keith Phillips came to Tabor College as the commencement speaker in 1969. The next year, Al led a team from Tabor that facilitated a Bible club program in urban communities of Wichita. In 1972, Al began as the director of World Impact Wichita and moved into the house on Estelle Street.
While Al was in Wichita, Ruth was in California attending Westmont College in Santa Barbara. While there, she heard Keith speak in a chapel service. Ruth joined World Impact staff in 1977 and helped teach Bible clubs. Ruth later taught third grade at World Impact’s Los Angeles Christian School and served on a church plant team led by Fred Stoesz.
In 1989, Al transferred to the Los Angeles ministry as Vice President of Ministries. Al and Ruth were married in 1991, and they transferred to the World Impact Wichita ministry two years later.
Al is currently the Mid-West Regional Vice President of World Impact and oversees the ministries in Dallas, St. Louis, Wichita, Morning Star Ranch and Deer Creek Camp. Ruth serves part-time in the Good Samaritan Clinic and teaches Sunday School at Lighthouse Community Church (a World Impact church plant). Their daughters Joetta (18) is a freshman at Tabor College and Leane (15) is a sophomore at Berean Academy. Joetta spent the past summer in Guadalajara, Mexico helping with a church plant.
